Imagine a dog- a very scrawny dog- walking down a freeway. Suddenly, the dog sees a squirrel and runs across the road, not seeing a car coming straight on going 65mph. Upon realizing his harmful act, the driver rushes the dog the nearest veterinary hospital, where the dog is eventually nursed back to health by the friendly veterinary staff. Two weeks later the dog gets adopted by a young boy. Veterinarians don’t only save animal lives, they give animals new chances in life.
Even if down the road, you decide that being a vet isn't for you, you can always use your veterinary background to transition into a variety of roles with other organizations. It is understandable that not everyone likes animals, let alone working with them every day, but it’s not just about working with animals. It’s about considering and caring for their owners and the animals themselves. Owners want to make sure that their animal is going to be taken care of in the best way possible. You have to be selfless while caring for an animal because the outcome of their care doesn’t just affect you.
There are around 40 different specialty certifications offered by the American Veterinary Medical Association. There are different opportunities, along with working with different animals. Becoming a veterinarian means you get the chance to help animals everyday. You get to experience that feeling of relief and happiness when you heal an animal, and you know that they are going to be okay. Become a vet to help animals, to help others, and to help yourself.
